Oh, your garage. It’s the space where you shove all the things you might need to use someday, but don’t want to deal with now. You might leave just enough space to wiggle your cars inside, but other than that, it’s pretty much a mess. This doesn’t have to be the case! Here are some easy tips on how to make your garage your favorite room in the house.
The key to organizing your garage? Go vertical. Everything that can be hung up, should be.
Hang It
Hooks, from the ceiling and from the walls, can be used to hang tools, lawn chairs, bicycles, rakes, and brooms – you name it.
Shelve It
Shelves are a lifesaver in a garage. You can store your tool kits, odds and ends, tape and garbage bags, in an easy-to-see, easy-to-reach way. If you buy do-it-yourself shelving, you can arrange them to be as narrow or as wide as you need them. Don’t forget about overhead space, too. Overhead shelving can store seasonal stuff (gift wrapping, clothes for the off-season, holiday decorations).
See It
Clear, see-through plastic storage bins are a great way to store things. Instead of wondering, “What is in this mystery box?” and digging through the piles, you will immediately find what you are looking for. Add a label for even easier identification.
Get Rid of It
It’s hard to say goodbye, yet sometimes the best storage solution is to rid yourself of unnecessary stuff. Before you look for a place to store things, ask yourself, do I really need this? Instead of just throwing things out, create a pile for charity. Remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
